CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR
Even though we didn't do much but listen to music, I had an awesome time with you today.
A text from Jackson displayed at the top of the screen, which Jordan read quickly. Since she wasn't the kind of girl who would respond to a guy instantly, she left the message to reply to later on.
She'd make Jackson sweat and work a little harder to get her attention. If she was going to be honest with herself, her and Jackson's little afternoon stroll around the neighborhood was quite enjoyable. But she wasn't sure where their friendship was headed. It seemed Jackson was really into her and she didn't want to give him false hope, which would be wrong of her. If they were going to hang out for a second time, she'd make it clear that they were only friends, and nothing more. Well, unless, as time went on, they both wanted something more to develop between them. Until then though, she'd keep it as friendship.
After a sufficient amount of time had gone by, according to Jordan that is, she texted Jackson back.

Being too tired, she hadnât bothered to turn the movie off, and even with the glow of the TV on her face, she fell asleep right away.
Then after only a couple of minutes had passed, she woke up with a start when she heard a loud bang. At first she thought she'd dreamt the noise but heard it a second time, and sat up with her back straight.
"Mom? Dad?" she called up.
There was no answer from her parents, so she called out to them louder this time, and this was when she heard the sound for a third time.
Still there wasnât a response from upstairs, and although everything within her told her to stay put, she couldn't just ignore the bang. Especially not when her parents were on the upper floor where it was coming from.
Yet again, she heard the very audible bang, like something heavy had been thrown against one of the walls. Hadnât her parents heard it? How couldnât they have?
Before pushing her feet into warm slippers, she shoved the covers off of her, then grabbed her phone from the table in case she needed it to call emergency services. For
